How I operate

I’m happy to admit the way I do HR is a little different to most.

Any HR provider can give advice. Very few get involved.

My approach is that if you need help, I’ll come over and sort it out with you.

You don’t get a help-line, you get an HR professional on your team.

 

Handling People-Problems

Most HR providers give you a procedure to follow. Disciplinary and capability are the usual ones.

My approach is to pay more attention to the person than the procedure.

I listen carefully and ask the right questions.

I do it this way for one simple reason. It pays off.

I’ve had cases where “people-problems” turned out to be communication issues and we solved them very quickly.

I’ve had other cases where people realised it was in their best interests to leave the company.

Listening isn’t a soft option. But it’s the best way I know to get results.
